Exploratory user studies of assistive technologies in dementia care in Japan – Taro Sugihara (School of Environment and Society, Tokyo Institute of Technology)

In this webinar, I will present an exploratory study of assistive techs for dementia caregivers that I worked on from 2007 to 2013. In Japan, where the population was aging rapidly ahead of the rest of the world, people with dementia were cared for in specialized facilities named group homes. In the beginning period, I took part in a research project to introduce a monitoring system into group homes. From there, I began my research as an action research. This presentation introduces the technology, dementia care, and the factors surrounding them that were discovered during the series of investigations.
