Yuka Minagawa is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan. Her research program is focused on the social causation of health and mortality in Japan and the former Soviet republics, with particular attention given to the role of gender. She is also involved in research examining how support and strain occurring in family life affect women’s physical and mental health in Japan. Her work on these topics has been published in Population and Development Review, the Journals of Gerontology, European Journal of Public Health, Social Forces, and Social Science & Medicine – Population Health, among others. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology with a specialization in Demography from the University of Texas at Austin.
