The École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) is a graduate-only research institution that has a unique standing in the world of research and higher education in France. It hosts scholars from all over the world committed to the study of contemporary societies seen within broad cultural and historical contexts. It trains students up to PhD level in all disciplines of the social and human sciences (history, anthropology, sociology, economics, geography, linguistics, psychology, demography, cognitive science, political science, philosophy and mathematics).

Toyo University was founded in 1887 as “Tetsugakukan” (“Philosophy Academy” in English) by Enryo Inoue. It has grown into a comprehensive university with 13 faculties, namely the Faculty of Letters, the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Business Administration, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Sociology, the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Faculty of Food and Nutritional Sciences, the Faculty of Human Life Design, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Information Sciences and Arts, the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, the Faculty of International Tourism Management, and the Faculty of Information Networking for Innovation and Design, as well as 15 graduate schools. To accommodate all these faculties and graduate schools, Toyo University now has five campuses—Hakusan, Kawagoe, Asaka, Itakura, and Akabanedai.
